The Ethiopian Space Science and Geo-Spatial Institute stated that important preparations are underway to launch Ethiopia’s second and better quality earth observation satellite. The Ethiopian Space Science and Geo-Spatial Institute has planned to launch three satellites in a 10-year plan, according to the head of the institute’s communication department, Girma Dejene. Among these three satellites, the first earth observation satellite (ETRSS-1) was launched into space and it has been in space for the past three years and has been providing a lot of information and is still providing information.
They said that now, various works are being done to launch the second earth observation satellite, which is intended to provide more services with better image quality than the first one. He pointed out that a feasibility study has been carried out to launch the satellite, and he said that the necessary research and resources to launch the satellite are being carried out.
He pointed out that the satellite has a high importance in strengthening the country’s information in agriculture, environmental protection, tourism and various land management and the like. He stated that it is the third communication satellite among the three satellites that are expected to be launched in this planning period, and said that the work of launching the satellite is in progress.
