The war in the Tigray region of Ethiopia has entered its second phase. The first saw an attempt to eliminate TPLF LED Tigrayan forces by the pure power of Ethiopian and Eritrean national armies.
This had succeeded to a certain extent to some extent TIGRAYAN forces. But after eight months of chaos, it turned out to be an educated operation, ending with the national armies of the two countries on the back foot.
The Tigrayan forces are again in control of the Mekelle capital and the large part of the territory of the region.
The second phase of the war is planned to be more delay because the bone of contention is now vast bands of land. The Amharas, assisted by the regional special forces of the rest of Ethiopia, wish to hold on their recent annexation of Western and South Tigray, that they claim are TPLF zones taking from force. Tigrayans want the earth to be under their control.
We are witnessing an ethnic charged confrontation with consequences that no observer even wants to imagine: a carnage.
In his recent speech in Parliament, Prime Minister Abiy said that his government could gather 100,000 special forces in no time. He then added, they could even recruit a million young men ready to fight.
