The Oriental Orthodox Church split from mainline Christianity after the Council of Chalcedon. Going before Chalcedon, social affairs like Nicea, Constantinople, and Ephesus had portrayed the standard viewpoint on Christ's eminent nature. Nestorianism, which highlighted that the human and glorious characteristics of Jesus Christ were two absolutely different substances, had been excused. The Council of Chalcedon articulated that Christ was a singular person with two united characteristics, human and wonderful. Some felt this was unreasonably close to Nestorianism and excused the chamber's decision.
