The statement says that the emergency library will help with "remote teaching, research activities, independent scholarships and intellectual stimulation, while universities, schools, training centers and libraries are closed."
Lenore, who wrote in New York that other collections should follow the Internet Achive advantage, said she saw the Emergency Library as an effort that is worth helping teachers and students who faced an urgent educational crisis. "People who can buy books should be buying books at this time," Lenore said in an email. "But, meanwhile, in addition to an emergency of public health, there is an educational emergency."
Even so, some organizations representing the authors and publishers said that the effort could do more damage to the publication industry at a time of economic crisis.
