When we work with new digital technologies, whether private or professional, we are often very concerned with the way this technology works. Is it easily accessible, or requires high-level IT skills? Do you support and reassure me in my daily work, or is another new task that it consumes a lot of time? These questions are obviously important and very intuitive, when we find digital technology. Often, we receive surveys or questions about new technologies that have been implemented in our life, asking us to evaluate the functionalities of this specific technology from a user perspective. What perhaps do not ask us that often, or what we do not ask for, for example, our students, is, if and how this technology makes sense, in our lives and in our professions, and how it can support processes of empowerment.
As part of the Erasmus + Project financed "Empowering the EPortfolio processes", the authors of this article, investigated the user's perspective on digital technology "EPORTHOLIO", through a survey among students in adult education. Many of the questions in our questionnaire were accurately concerned with the understanding of technology as something mainly related to functions and functioning. However, some of the answers surprised us a lot. Instead of simply evaluating the features of eportecolios, students indicated issues of meaning and the feeling of eportecolium both in a professional and personal sense.
